Rarely do I have the pleasure to read such a well written article as the one by Mr Ahmad Farouk Musa, a director at Islamic Renaissance Front. His essay was presented at a dialogue on Islamic State: Which Version, Whose Responsibility at the Full Gospel Tabernacle, USJ Selangor on November 3, 2012. The initial groundbreaking article was entitled Arguing for A Secular State.
I would like to add to the final quote from Niebuhr: Democracy is a two edged-sword. Our creator did not grant us a free will for nothing. Adam and Eve had a choice to obey God or disobey Him.
If it was God's will that all divine, religious rules should be made into civil laws, then mankind will never ever have the capacity for a true moral awakening. It is by falling into sin or the danger of sin that we can repent and be saved by the grace of God.
It is personal morality that makes a just society, not the other way round. An autocratic society ruled with an iron fist to keep people from committing personal sins is a disastrous society. Just look at Iran , Saudi Arabia and Afghanistan and you can see the evidence.
Likewise, the communist and socialist fascist regimes of Stalin, Mao, Hitler, Mussolini are no less autocratic societies ruled with a similar philosophical fallacy that morality starts with the external conduct of man and not the inner conscience of the soul.
